eDNA Results Victoria 2021

This inaugual program in the Great Australian Wildlife Search, this program ran in spring and early summer in 2021 as the Great Australian Platypus Search. Through this program, citizen scientists from schools and across the Victorian community sampled nearly 2,000 sites.

This extensive sampling survey provided the opportunity to generate landscape scale distribution data on a range of freshwater vertebrate species, using the eDNA metabarcoding method.

The results are summarised in the easy-to-read Biodiversity Findings Report. Site specific information can be seen using the interactive map below.

The Great Australian Wildlife Search began in Victoria in Spring 2021 as the Great Australian Platypus Seach. The platypus was the flagship species of this program in recognition of growing concerns of its conservation status and lack of systematic data.

This scientific report was prepared specifically for the platypus in Victoria.
